Why train in AI and data in 2026?
The digital sector counted 666,268 direct jobs at the end of 2025 according to Numeum, after a decade of strong growth. The market, estimated at 72.2 billion euros in 2025, is expected to grow by around 4.3% in 2026. On the executive side, APEC recorded 67,650 IT executive hires in 2025, the leading role in the executive job market.
The picture is not uniform, though. France Travail's Labour Needs survey (April 2026) notes a 12.5% drop in hiring intentions in information and communication. The market is polarising: data, AI, cloud and cybersecurity profiles remain in very high demand, while generalist missions face more pressure. Which work-study courses for AI and data?
There is no single entry point. Depending on your level, several programmes can be taken as an apprenticeship or professionalisation contract.

The BUT in data science and the BUT in computer science are excellent three-year foundations, often offered through work-study from the second year. Which jobs and salaries after work-study?
Work-study in data and AI opens onto concrete jobs:
- Data analyst: collects, cleans and interprets data to inform decisions.
- Data engineer: builds and maintains the pipelines that feed the models — a job cited by APEC among those accelerating strongly.
- Data scientist: designs predictive and statistical models (usually bac+5).
- Machine learning / AI engineer: puts models into production and optimises them.
- Data project manager: leads projects and bridges business and technical teams.

How to land your work-study contract in data or AI?
The sector hires on its rare profiles, but a contract takes preparation: apply early and widely. May to July concentrates the most offers for a September intake, and you have three months after the start of the course to sign.
