You want to train for a building trade through an apprenticeship and you have just discovered the rules have changed this year. In 2026, several BTP vocational qualifications have been updated in the RNCP, new CQPs have been created, and the construction sector's OPCO (Constructys) has launched an exceptional grant for hiring companies. What follows sets out what concretely changes for your September intake.
In short: four level-3 (CAP/BEP) qualifications updated or created in the RNCP in 2026 — formwork setter, façade painter, floor-layer/carpet-layer and road builder — are joined by 16 new or updated CQPs from CCCA-BTP, several of them focused on energy retrofitting and off-site construction. Constructys pays an exceptional €1,500 grant to companies with fewer than 50 employees that hire an apprentice on a "core site" qualification, and raises its contract funding ceilings by 3 to 5%. On top of that comes the new level-5 Building Electrical Designer qualification created in March 2026.
Which BTP vocational qualifications are new or updated in 2026?
France Compétences published a wave of updates and creations to BTP vocational qualifications in the first half of 2026. Three families of changes to bear in mind:
- Updated level-3 qualifications: the formwork setter sees its syllabus updated (stronger modules on safety, BIM and digital plan reading); in force since March 2026.
- New level-3 qualifications: façade painter, floor-layer/carpet-layer and road and urban development builder join the RNCP catalogue, available from the 2026 intake.
- New level-5 qualification: Building Electrical Designer (bac+2), available through apprenticeship to address the shortage of design-office technicians in the BTP sector.
With four updated or new level-3 qualifications and a new level-5 qualification, 2026 is one of the densest years for the BTP catalogue since the 2019 reform.
The table below summarises the main new entries and their level.
| Qualification title | Level | 2026 status | Core trade |
|---|---|---|---|
| Formwork setter | 3 (CAP/BEP) | Syllabus updated in March 2026 | Structural work |
| Façade painter | 3 (CAP/BEP) | New qualification created in 2026 | Finishing |
| Floor-layer/carpet-layer | 3 (CAP/BEP) | New qualification created in 2026 | Finishing |
| Road and urban development builder | 3 (CAP/BEP) | New qualification created in 2026 | Public works |
| Building Electrical Designer | 5 (Bac+2) | New qualification created in March 2026 | Design office |
Which CQPs has CCCA-BTP created or updated in 2026?
CCCA-BTP, the joint body that runs apprenticeship in construction, validated 16 new or updated CQPs (Certificats de Qualification Professionnelle) in the first half of 2026. The most striking changes concern energy transition, timber construction and off-site construction.
Several CQPs now open skills blocks focused on:
- site supervision (team leader, site foreman);
- waterproofing and external thermal insulation (ITE);
- metalwork and joinery (fitting, layout);
- energy retrofitting (audit, installation, control);
- off-site construction (prefabricated modules, assembly).
For apprentices, this is a double advantage: these CQPs are usually completed in 6 to 12 months and allow a CAP or vocational bac to be extended with a speciality that employers are looking for.
What exceptional grant does Constructys pay in 2026?
Constructys, the BTP OPCO, has introduced an exceptional scheme in 2026 to speed up apprenticeship hiring in the field trades. It combines three financial levers:
- An exceptional €1,500 grant paid to the company with fewer than 50 employees that hires an apprentice on a "core site" vocational qualification (structural work, second-fix work, finishing).
- A 3 to 5% increase in contract funding ceilings for apprenticeship contracts at companies with fewer than 50 employees.
- Generalised AFPR (Action de Formation Préalable au Recrutement) and POEC (Préparation Opérationnelle à l'Emploi Collective) for BTP apprenticeship contracts, which allow candidates without the right prereq to upskill before signing the contract.
For a candidate, the AFPR means you can be hired even if you don't yet master every trade gesture: the funding kicks in before the contract is signed.
These grants are stackable with the single apprenticeship hiring grant (from €750 to €6,000 depending on company size and qualification level, set by the decree of 6 March 2026). Concretely, a small structural-work company signing a CAP apprentice can therefore receive up to €6,500 in the first year by combining both schemes.
Which national-education diplomas are also updated?
The Ministry of National Education has aligned several of its own diplomas with the new RNCP content. The diplomas affected for the 2026 intake include:
- CAP Bricklayer, CAP Paint/Coating Applicator, CAP Timber-frame Carpenter: updated syllabuses with stronger modules on digital (BIM), the ecological transition and site safety.
- Vocational bac in Public Works, BTS Building, BTS Public Works, BTS Building Studies and Economics: updated content to incorporate energy retrofitting and the new environmental standards (RE2020).
- Timber construction additional qualification converted into a level-4 qualification recognised by the BTP collective agreement.
For apprentices, this means a single path can now cover several skills valued by employers, and open the door to specialisations (energy retrofitting, BIM, timber construction) that were not identified as such two years ago.
How do I apply for a new BTP qualification through apprenticeship?
Three steps to convert the chance:
- Find the qualification that matches your project in the France Compétences catalogue or via Constructys. Check that the CFA or training organisation you are looking at is properly approved for the qualification concerned.
- Prepare an application that shows your hands-on skill: internship, personal building project, DIY, voluntary work. The sector values concrete evidence more than grades alone. Take inspiration from our 2026 apprenticeship CV guide to highlight these elements.
- Apply early: the best BTP companies select their apprentices between March and July for a September intake. Check the apprenticeship job offers every week and don't hesitate to send spontaneous applications to local tradespeople and SMEs in your area.

If you are targeting a trade in tension and want to know the sector's hiring outlook, you can also check our analysis of the 2026 apprenticeship market or browse the apprenticeship trades to identify the BTP speciality that suits you, from structural work to finishing.
What pay for an apprentice on a new BTP qualification?
Pay follows the legal apprenticeship scale: a percentage of the SMIC that rises with your age and your year of contract. The good news is that the BTP sector also applies collective-agreement minimums that are often more generous than the legal floor, especially for team members and foremen in training.
To find out your exact net pay depending on your age, your apprenticeship year and the qualification you are preparing, use the salary simulator from SuperAlternance: it includes BTP collective-agreement minimums and any extensions related to the length of the contract.

The key points to remember before applying
- Four level-3 qualifications updated or created in the BTP RNCP in 2026, plus a level-5 qualification (Building Electrical Designer).
- 16 CCCA-BTP CQPs new or updated, several of them focused on energy retrofitting and off-site construction.
- Exceptional Constructys €1,500 grant for companies with fewer than 50 employees, stackable with the single hiring grant.
- AFPR and POEC generalised for BTP apprenticeship contracts.
- National-education CAPs updated on BIM, the ecological transition and site safety.
With a renewed catalogue, stronger grants and hiring in tension, the 2026 intake is probably the best window in five years to sign an apprenticeship contract in the BTP sector.
