Moving to follow a work-study programme is expensive: security deposit, first month's rent, agency fees. The Mobili-Jeune grant, run by Action Logement, covers part of the rent of young work-study students who move closer to their company or training centre.
In short: Mobili-Jeune pays €10 to €100 a month, up to €1,100 per year of training (11 monthly payments), for 2 years of training maximum, i.e. €2,200 in total. It is aimed at work-study students under 30 on an apprenticeship or professionalisation contract with a company in the non-agricultural private sector, whose gross salary does not exceed 120% of the SMIC (French minimum wage). The grant is calculated on the rent remaining after APL (personalised housing benefit) is deducted, and can be combined with APL, the Visale guarantee and the Loca-Pass advance. You apply online, within the 3 months before or the 5 months after your contract starts.
What exactly is Mobili-Jeune?
Mobili-Jeune is a housing grant funded by Action Logement (formerly the “1% housing levy”) for young people on work-study programmes. It covers apprenticeship contracts and professionalisation contracts signed with a company in the non-agricultural private sector. Work-study students in the public sector are not eligible; those in the agricultural sector fall under a separate scheme, the Agri-Mobili-Jeune grant (agricultural companies with at least 50 employees).
Mobili-Jeune is not a loan: it is a grant, paid on presentation of your rent receipts and payslips. You have nothing to pay back.
The grant is calculated on your rent including charges (or your share of the rent in a flat-share), after deducting APL and any other housing benefits received for the same property. The cap is €100 a month, so the actual amount depends on what you still have to pay.
What conditions must you meet in 2026?
To receive Mobili-Jeune in 2026, you must meet all of the following conditions:

Several common situations rule out entitlement to Mobili-Jeune:
- you keep living with your parents during your work-study programme;
- you are a work-study student in the public sector (town hall, hospital, ministry…) or with a company in the agricultural sector;
- you are staying in a bed and breakfast, a gîte (holiday cottage) or a tourist residence;
- your gross salary exceeds 120% of the SMIC, or you apply after the deadline.
How much is the grant in 2026?
The grant ranges from €10 to €100 a month, up to €1,100 per year of training, paid in 11 monthly instalments. It can be requested for 2 years of training maximum, consecutive or not: the total therefore cannot exceed €2,200.
The actual amount depends on two factors:
- The rent including charges (or your share in a flat-share);
- The housing benefits already received for this property, first and foremost APL: Mobili-Jeune is calculated on what remains to be paid after they are deducted.
The higher your out-of-pocket rent, the closer the grant gets to the cap of €100 a month. Eligibility depends on your age, your contract and your salary, not on your parents' income.
The grant is paid against supporting documents: you upload the rent receipt (or proof of payment) and the payslip for the months concerned to your personal account, at whatever pace suits you.

Can Mobili-Jeune be combined with other housing support?
Yes, it is one of the scheme's strengths. Mobili-Jeune can be added to the main housing support schemes:

How do you apply step by step?
The application is made exclusively online, on the Action Logement website. Here are the steps:
- Check the application window: between 3 months before and 5 months after the date your contract starts.
- Create your account from the official Mobili-Jeune grant page.
- Enter your details: contract, employer, property address, rent, housing benefits received.
- Upload the supporting documents: signed work-study contract, lease or proof of residence, bank details (RIB), ID.
- Wait for processing: a complete application is handled in around 7 working days, longer at the start of the academic year.
- Trigger the payments by uploading your rent receipts and payslips.
Pitfalls to avoid
- Missing the window: more than 5 months after the contract starts, the application is no longer admissible.
- Forgetting about cash flow: the grant is paid after the rent, against supporting documents. Keep some money aside for the first month.
- Not reporting a change: moving house, contract termination or a change of employer can affect your entitlement. Update your file without delay.
- Forgetting the 2nd year: for a second year of training, a new application must be made within the same window, around the contract's anniversary date. Beyond 2 years of training, the grant can no longer be awarded.
What if I'm not eligible for Mobili-Jeune?
Several fallback options exist depending on your situation:
- Loca-Pass advance: up to €1,200 interest-free for the security deposit, repayable over 25 months maximum; open to non-agricultural private-sector employees and to under-30s in employment (excluding tenured civil servants), to be requested no later than 2 months after moving in.
- Visale guarantee: free guarantee if no one can act as your guarantor, to be requested before signing the lease.
- APL: paid subject to income conditions, apply on caf.fr. For an apprentice, only part of the salary is taken into account.
- Agri-Mobili-Jeune: for work-study students at an agricultural company with at least 50 employees, under its own conditions.
- Local and CFA support: boarding, approved accommodation, regional or city schemes.

What if you're still looking for a contract?
Mobili-Jeune is only available with a work-study contract. On the employer side, apprentice hiring incentives were revised by decree no. 2026-168 of 6 March 2026: for contracts signed since 8 March 2026, they range from €750 to €5,000 depending on company size and qualification level, and up to €6,000 for an apprentice with recognised disabled worker status (see our article on the apprentice hiring incentive in 2026).
